Surgical Orthodontics

Surgical Orthodontics is a combination of orthodontics and orthognathic surgery. It is one of the most effective oral procedures used to correct severe abnormalities in the teeth, jaw, face, skull and conditions like malocclusion. Surgical orthodontics becomes necessary when only orthodontic treatments aren’t sufficient to correct problems in your jaw or teeth. Orthognathic surgery helps align the jaw and orthodontic braces and retainers are then used to fine-tune your smile.

What is Orthognathic Surgery?

Orthognathic surgery is a widely used oral surgical procedure used to treat severe discrepancies in the jaw or teeth. At Putnam Orthodontics, we work with the best oral and maxillofacial surgeons specializing in treating even the most complex craniofacial cases which involve the jaw, mouth, and face. This ensures a higher success rate and great results for you.

If you need orthognathic surgery, you will need pre-surgical orthodontics for nine to twelve months before the surgery. After the surgery you will require a two-week resting period. We suggest that you schedule some time away from work or school to promote better and faster healing.

Once the jaw has healed, final corrections will be made to your bite. After the surgery, you will need to wear braces for at least six months, followed by retainers to help you maintain your newly improved smile.
